2011 Jim Keppel Memorial Golf Classic

16-Aug-2011 (at Green Pond Country Club)

The 2011 Jim Keppel Memorial Golf Classic was a huge success again this year. Overall, we took in over $17,000. Special thanks to all the Sponsors, Golfers, and all of our volunteers. The weather was beautiful, sunny and warm with a breeze just when you needed it.

The Foundation presented a check to Holy Family School for $1,500. Jim's Uncle, Curt Keppel then matched that amount so we were able to provide $3,000 targeted for scholarships to families that want to keep their children in Catholic schools but cannot afford it. Father Tobias, pastor at Holy Family church, addressed the crowd and said,

"Your support is a wonderful gift to aid families of Holy Family Parish who financially would not be able to send their children to a parish school."

A very special thank you to our Honorary Golf Chairman, Jim's grandfather Stephen Keppel, Jr. After dinner, he offered his experiences and his special relationship with Jim.

In addition, the Master of Ceremonies and handling the auction was in the capable hands of Paul Ardire who filled in for Jack Kukoda. Paul was one of Jim's teammates at Yale and is one of the trustees of the Foundation. The auction itself brought in $1,550 for the Foundation.

Overall Results:

Once again this was a hotly contested match with one stroke separating first and second place. We had a team win for the second year in a row. Paul Ardire is claiming his addition to the team helped put them over the top. The winners of 1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place were:

Kep's Cup

The battle for "Kep's Cup" is always one of the most coveted prizes. Yale brought "Kep's Cup" back home with a Gross Score Average for their teams 62.3, besting Becahi's average of 67.5. Chris Mitchell, Stephen Keppel, and Ryan Roeder have all vowed that Becahi will win back the cup next year.

The other winners for the specialty contests were:

  • Closest To The Pin: Anita Paukovits

  • Longest Drive: PJ Collins

  • Longest Drive Seniors: Stephen Keppel, Jr.

  • Pot 'O Gold: Jim Wagner

  • Putting Challenge: John Hasser

Once again, Brenda and I want to thank all of you. It is always so gratifying for us to hear from everyone, talk with everyone and know that you are all here helping Jim’s Foundation. God bless all of you.

And please mark your calendars as the 2012 Jim Keppel Memorial Golf Classic will be held earlier next year on Saturday, June 30th. Hope to see you all then.
