2012 Jim Keppel Memorial Golf Classic

30-Jun-2012 (at Green Pond Country Club)

The 2012 Jim Keppel Memorial Golf Classic was a huge success again this year. Overall, we took in over $13,000. Special thanks to all the Sponsors, Golfers, and all of our volunteers. The weather was beautiful, a bit on the warm side, but everyone had a good time.

Jim’s brother Stephen talked about his time spent in Haiti and specifically about those who have received the James Keppel Foundation scholarships. Martineau Isaac is now a doctor practicing in Haiti and Seide Beetorans just graduated with a degree in Agronomy. A new four year college scholarship will be given to a student in September.

In addition, the Master of Ceremonies and handling the auction was in the capable hands of Sean Griffin, Jim’s cousin. The auction itself brought in $1,250 for the Foundation.

Overall Results:

Once again this was a hotly contested match with one stroke separating first and second place. We had a team return and win for the third year. The winners of 1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place were:

Gross Score 58

  • Larry Shea

  • Colin Butryn

2nd Place: "Team Keppel"

3rd Place: Hesburgh—"The Dream Team"

Gross Score 60

Kep's Cup

The battle for "Kep's Cup" is always one of the most coveted prizes. Becahi brought it home with a low average of 66.1, besting Yale's average of 71. This version of Kep's Cup will be retired and a new, larger Kep's cup will be up for grabs next year.

The other winners for the specialty contests were:

  • Longest Drive: PJ Collins

  • Straightest Drive: PJ Collins

  • Longest Drive Seniors: Jim Brown

  • Pot 'O Gold: Joe Henrich

  • Putting Challenge: Vince Yankowy

Once again, Brenda and I want to thank all of you. It is always so gratifying for us to hear from everyone, talk with everyone and know that you are all here helping Jim’s Foundation. God bless all of you.

And please mark your calendars as the 2012 Jim Keppel Memorial Golf Classic will be held earlier next year on Saturday, June 30th. Hope to see you all then.
